Optical measurement helped the company minimize downtime

David Paull (CNC) Engineering, which focuses on precision machining subcontracting, has built a reputation as a supplier of high-quality products in nearly 70 years of history.
The often critical components that the company is machining are used in marine, aerospace, weapons, oil, gas, pneumatic or medical systems, as well as in the tourism sector, which means that they must meet the highest demands on shape, function and safety.

Quality control was one of the key areas that DP Engineering focused on as part of the improvement programs. Due to the complexity of products and production materials, the company had to rely mainly on manual inspection in the past.
The time-consuming nature of this approach seemed to be a major obstacle in increasing productivity and production capacities. Moreover, the subjective nature of manual measurement entails a risk of inaccuracy, since this process is neither repeatable nor fast enough to be applied to anything other than batch sample measurement.
To meet its goals, DP Engineering has bet on the VICIVISION brand – leading optical measuring machines for contactless measurement of workpieces and quality control systems.
While previously the company used various instruments to measure, e.g. external dimensions were measured using x-ray machines, contour measuring instruments or height gauges, it now measures everything on one instrument. It uses VICIVISION to measure features that cannot be measured on the coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
“It was good for our production. We make money by machining metals, so every downtime is a loss for us, and VICIVISION has significantly reduced our downtime,” says Philip Anthony of DP Engineering.
